Q & A

What is BOTOX® used for?

BOTOX is an injectable wrinkle-correcting treatment. While wrinkle erasing is by far the most popular use for BOTOX, this injectable is also a treatment for migraine headaches, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and chronic neck spasms.

Most of the Dalewood Medical Center patients who opt for BOTOX want wrinkle correction, and BOTOX is remarkably effective for that.

Where is BOTOX used in the face?

BOTOX is used in three main areas of the face:

The lines between your eyebrows
The lines on your forehead
The lines at the edges of your eyes (crow’s feet)

Dr. Neda Montameni injects the BOTOX into the facial muscles used in forming your expressions. The BOTOX relaxes the muscles and slows their movement, and the skin smooths out as a result. When you make expressions after BOTOX, you’ll still look natural and normal thanks to Dr.  Montameni’s expertise.

Does BOTOX hurt?

No, most patients don’t find BOTOX injections painful at all. Dr. Neda Montameni’s an expert injector who uses an extremely fine needle to deliver the BOTOX to your muscles. If you’re uncomfortable, Dr. Neda Montameni can apply a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area before your BOTOX treatment. BOTOX injections are just a quick mosquito-like sting for most patients, and then you’re done.

How long before I can see BOTOX results?

BOTOX results appear about 2-4 days after treatment in most cases, although it can take up to a week to take full effect. You’ll notice the wrinkles fading steadily, so it’s not a shocking sudden change. Many patients wake up and look in the mirror a week or so after BOTOX and realize that they look younger and more well-rested overall. Your friends and family may tell you that you look great, but that they just can’t quite put their finger on what’s changed!

How often do I need to get a BOTOX treatment?

BOTOX injection lasts for 3-4 months. You can keep your face smooth and wrinkle free if you schedule your BOTOX maintenance visits every three months or so. BOTOX does last longer in some patients, particularly those who’ve had treatment consistently for a while, so you may only need a touch up a couple of times a year.
